Adama Kouyate Studios D'Afrique First Edition
Studios d'Afrique presents studio photographs taken by Adama Kouyaté between 1954 and 1971. Never published, this photographic collection spans two decades. The years of rupture, from the mid-50s to the 60s, when social and political relations were redefined, both in Africa and elsewhere, with the liberation of countries from colonial rule.
Adama Kouyaté, son of a master shoemaker, was born in Bougouni, a village in the former French Sudan (now Mali). A contemporary of Malik Sidibé and Seydou Keïta.
